Ingredients

For the Rolls
  • 1/2 cup warm water (110-115°F)
  • 1/2 cup warm milk (110-115°F)
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast (1 packet)
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour spooned and leveled
  • 1 tsp salt

Equipment

  • 1 Large Mixing Bowl
  • 1 9x13 inch baking pan

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, warm milk, sugar, and instant yeast. Whisk gently and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Whisk the melted butter and egg into the yeast mixture.
  3. Add the flour and salt. Stir with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms. Do not overmix.
  4. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 1-2 minutes until it forms a smooth ball.
  5. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a smooth ball and place in a greased 9x13 inch baking pan.
  6. Cover with a clean towel and let rise in a warm place for 10-15 minutes while you preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  7. Optional: Brush the tops of the rolls with additional melted butter.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown. Serve warm.

Notes

For an extra rich flavor, brush the rolls with melted butter again as soon as they come out of the oven.
Ensure your liquids are warm, not hot. Water or milk that is too hot can kill the yeast.
