Ingredients

For the Sliders
  • 1 12-count package Hawaiian sweet rolls
  • 1 lb thinly sliced deli roast beef
  • 8-12 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 large yellow onion thinly sliced
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter divided
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce for butter topping
  • 1 pinch dried parsley or thyme optional
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds optional, for topping
For the Au Jus
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • Black pepper to taste

Equipment

  • 1 9x13 inch Baking Dish
  • 1 Skillet
  • 1 Small saucepan

Instructions

  1. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and cook slowly for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft and golden brown. Set aside.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the slab of Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally. Place the bottom half in a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  3. Layer half of the provolone slices on the bottom buns. Top with the sliced roast beef, caramelized onions, and the remaining provolone slices. Place the top half of the rolls on.
  4. In a small bowl, melt the remaining 4 tablespoons of butter. Stir in the minced garlic and 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce. Brush this mixture evenly over the tops of the sliders and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  5. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 15 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, until the tops are golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.
  6. While the sliders are baking, combine all au jus ingredients (beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder) in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5-10 minutes. Season with black pepper.
  7. Let the sliders rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving warm with the au jus for dipping.

Notes

Tip 1: For an extra rich au jus, add a splash of red wine or a teaspoon of soy sauce.
Tip 2: Don't overcrowd the roast beef; a loose pile will result in a more tender slider.
Tip 3: Ensure the au jus is warm when serving for the best dipping experience.
