Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups All-Purpose Flour plus more for dusting
  • 1 packet Active Dry Yeast about 2 1/4 teaspoons
  • 1 cup Warm Water 105-115°F (40-46°C)
  • 1 tablespoon Granulated Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted Butter melted
  • 3 cloves Garlic finely minced
  • 0.5 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese divided
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh Herbs finely chopped (parsley, rosemary, thyme)
  • 0.5 teaspoon Sea Salt Flakes for sprinkling

Equipment

  • 1 Large Mixing Bowl
  • 1 Baking sheet

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy and bubbly.
  2. Add the all-purpose flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a shaggy dough forms. Knead on a lightly floured surface for 8-10 minutes (or 6-8 minutes in a stand mixer) until smooth and elastic.
  3. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  4. In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, minced garlic, half of the Parmesan cheese, and chopped fresh herbs. Set aside. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and shape it into a loaf on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  5. Cover the loaf and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  6. Brush the garlic herb butter mixture over the loaf. Sprinkle with the remaining Parmesan cheese and sea salt flakes. Bake for 20-25 minutes until deep golden brown. Let cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

For the best flavor, use fresh garlic and herbs.
Ensure your yeast is active before starting; the water should not be too hot or it will kill the yeast.
Let the bread cool for at least 15 minutes before slicing to allow the internal structure to set.
