Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 Yellow Onion thinly sliced
  • 1 Green Bell Pepper thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 1 lb Lean Ground Beef 85/15 or 90/10 recommended
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Salt or to taste
  • 1/4 tsp Black Pepper or to taste
  • 8 slices Provolone Cheese
  • 4 Hoagie Rolls split

Equipment

  • 1 Large Skillet
  • 1 Spatula

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add sliced onion and bell pepper and cook for 5-7 minutes, until softened. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more. Remove vegetables from the skillet and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add the ground beef. Cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until fully browned. Drain any excess grease.
  3. Stir the Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper into the cooked beef. Return the sautéed vegetables to the skillet and mix everything together.
  4. Reduce heat to low. Divide the beef mixture into four piles in the skillet and top each with two slices of provolone cheese. Let it melt for 1-2 minutes.
  5. While the cheese melts, toast the hoagie rolls. Scoop the cheesy beef mixture into the toasted rolls and serve immediately.

Notes

Toast the Buns: Don't skip this step! Toasting the hoagie rolls prevents them from getting soggy and adds great texture.
Cheese Variations: Feel free to substitute the provolone with Cheez Whiz or white American cheese for a different flavor and texture.
