Ingredients

For the Creamy Grinder Salad
  • 1 cup Mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup Red Wine Vinegar
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp Italian Seasoning
  • 1 head Iceberg Lettuce thinly sliced
  • 1/2 Red Onion finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup Banana Peppers chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Salt to taste
  • 1/4 tsp Black Pepper to taste
For the Sandwich
  • 4 Hoagie Rolls
  • 8 slices Provolone Cheese
  • 1/2 lb Deli Salami
  • 1/2 lb Deli Turkey
  • 1/4 lb Deli Ham
  • 2 Roma Tomatoes thinly sliced

Equipment

  • 1 Large Bowl
  • 1 Baking sheet
  • 1 Chef's knife

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, red wine vinegar, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper until smooth and creamy.
  2. Add the thinly sliced iceberg lettuce, finely chopped red onion, and chopped banana peppers to the bowl with the dressing. Toss everything together until the salad is evenly coated. Chill while preparing the sandwiches.
  3. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise, without cutting all the way through, and open them on a baking sheet.
  4. Layer the provolone cheese, salami, turkey, and ham inside the rolls. Toast for 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden.
  5. Remove the rolls from the oven. Layer the sliced tomatoes over the warm meat and cheese.
  6. Pile the grinder salad generously onto the sandwich, press to close, slice in half, and serve immediately.

Notes

For the best result, use high-quality deli meats and cheese.
To prevent a soggy sandwich, ensure you toast the bread well and serve immediately after adding the salad.
