Ingredients

  • 4 ounces prosciutto thinly sliced
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella pearls (ciliegine) or a block of low-moisture mozzarella cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Fresh basil leaves optional
  • Balsamic glaze for drizzling, optional

Equipment

  • 1 Non-stick skillet or Baking sheet
  • 1 Tongs

Instructions

Pan-Frying Method (Recommended)
  1. Pat the mozzarella pearls or cubes completely dry with a paper towel. This is crucial for crisping.
  2. Lay a slice of prosciutto flat. Place a piece of mozzarella (and a basil leaf, if using) at one end and roll up tightly.
  3. Heat olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Place wraps seam-side down and cook for 1-2 minutes per side, until the prosciutto is golden and crispy and the cheese is just beginning to melt.
  4. Remove from the pan, drizzle with balsamic glaze if desired, and serve immediately.
Baking Method
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Pat the mozzarella dry and wrap with prosciutto as described above. Arrange the wraps on the baking sheet.
  3. Bake for 8-10 minutes, until prosciutto is crisped and the cheese is soft. Serve immediately.

Notes

Tip 1: Don't overcrowd the pan. Cook in batches if necessary to ensure the prosciutto crisps up rather than steams.
Tip 2: You can assemble these wraps up to a day in advance and store them in the fridge. Cook just before serving for the best texture.
